Version 2.1.0 is live, and it is the most disruptive release we have shipped, so we are leading with the part that asks something of you. Two things changed about how you get into the game. Once you are past them, everything below is waiting.
Android: uninstall first, then reinstall
This build is signed with a new key. Android refuses to install an update signed with a different key than the copy already on your phone, so installing over the top will fail with "App not installed". Uninstall the old app first, then install the new one.
Your account is not affected. Every scrap of progress (your level, your bases, your gear, your allies, your rank) lives on our servers, not on your phone. Reinstalling costs you nothing but the download.
Web: the game has moved
The browser version now lives at its own address: play.globalconflict.co.za. The old link still redirects there, so nothing you have bookmarked is broken. Because it is a new address, everyone has been signed out and will need to log in again.
If the game looks stale, or icons show as blank boxes, your browser is holding an old copy. Clearing site data for globalconflict.co.za fixes it.
A tutorial that stops telling you how to build
The old tutorial was a build order pretending to be a tour. It forced a specific spread of attribute points, refused anything else, then made you grind two level gates before it would let go.
It is now a guided tour and nothing more. You place one point of each kind so you have used the button, and every decision after that is yours. No forced stats, no level gates, and no being told your build is wrong before you have had a chance to make one.
Private practice bosses for new commanders
The lowest boss on the real ladder sits at Level 10 with 500 Defence. A brand new account has roughly 34 effective Attack, which meant the only possible result was 1 damage, followed by a counter-hit that knocked them out of the fight entirely.
New commanders now get a private practice boss of their own: a real fight, on the same combat maths as everything else, sized for an account that has just started. It is yours alone, and it does not come back once it goes down.
One profile screen instead of five
The profile has been rebuilt around six tabs: STATS, SQUAD, ARMORY, DOCTRINE, PROGRESSION and WALL.
The important part is DOCTRINE. Every point you can spend (attributes, active tactics and passive tactics) is now spent there, on the screen you are already looking at, instead of sending you somewhere else to allocate a point you were staring at. Unspent points are flagged on the tab itself, so you never have to open a tab to find out there is nothing to do in it.
Event gear you can actually see
Tournament prizes have been invisible on your own profile since the day we started handing them out. That is fixed. Event gear now has its own EVENT tab in the Armory, with a switch to bench a prize or field it.
Each card tells you which of three things is actually true: the prize is in your line-up, it is outranked by gear you already own, or you have benched it. Being outranked by your own gear and being switched off are very different situations, and collapsing them into "not active" is what made event gear feel broken.
Sell land one plot at a time
Selling land used to be all or nothing: 25 Gold to liquidate everything you owned. It is now 10 Gold per plot, with the control sitting on the plot itself, next to the demolish button for the base standing on it.
Fixes and improvements
- Base cards understated income by 35 percent. The per-base figure left the income multiplier out, so the sum of your cards never matched the Hourly Cashflow header above them. The cards were wrong and the total was right, which means nobody was ever underpaid.
- Uncollected income could be silently wiped when your production dropped. Demolishing your last base took the pool to zero.
- Eight further correctness fixes from a sweep of the whole codebase, plus seven security fixes.
- Icons rendering as blank boxes for players still loading the game from the old web address.
Help us grow the server
Global Conflict is a solo project, and the advertising that brings new commanders in is paid for out of pocket. If you have got value out of the game and want more people on the map to fight, you can chip in here:
Every cent goes straight into advertising. A bigger server is a better game for everyone in it, and there is no pressure at all: playing and telling a friend helps just as much.
Get the update
This release requires everyone to update before playing. Android players: uninstall the old app first.
Tell us how it feels. The tutorial rework and the profile rebuild are both changes we want to hear about from people actually playing them, rather than from our own notes. Feedback goes in the discussions channel on Discord.
